This is my most favorite photo storage unit I have created yet! It is beautiful and compact and nice enough to have sitting out on your end table for others to look through the photos before you get them in your scrapbooks! It would be perfect for gift giving too! The finished project measures approximately 6-1/4" x 4-1/8" x 2" and it stores lots and lots of photos! The box has a hinged lid that helps keep the dust and light off the photos which will help protect them and the side slots allow the photos to be taken out of the box from the sides which will keep those finger prints off them too! The file is compatible with both the 12x12 and 8-1/2x12 mats.
Here is the tutorial:
1. Cut the pieces and fold on the score lines.
2. Apply adhesive to the tabs of the large piece as shown.
3. Adhere the tabs to the box sides. It should look like this now.
4. Grab the lid piece and place adhesive on the tabs.
5. Adhere the tabs to the sides.
6. Next place adhesive on one of the ends of the remaining piece as show.
7. Line up the piece with the lid piece.
8. Adhere the piece inside the lid piece as shown.
9. Next place adhesive on the other end of the center piece as shown.
10. Turn your main piece over (with cut-out ends) and adhere the center end to the bottom of the main piece.
11. Turn the piece over and fill with photos.
12. Close the lid.
Oooh one more way to pretty up. My storage!!! Love this!
ReplyDeleteI simply love your creations and all of them look very sturdy. The only question I have is what weight (or even brand) is the paper/cardstock you use? I plan to make several of these but I'm concerned that the cardstock I use is not sturdy enough. Thanks much!
ReplyDeleteFor this one I used Crate Paper's printed card stock which I believe is 80# card stock weight. I typically use a heavier card stock with printed papers and most always at least 80# card stock weight for my plain card stock as well. For plain card stock I use Basis Cardstock that I get from CutCardStock.com. I have a link to it on my sidebar. If you order $49+ the shipping is only $5.00 which is fabulous for a paper shipment and they are crazy quick to get orders out! Hope that helps! Jamie
ReplyDeleteWonderful box! Really loved it.
ReplyDeleteCurious if you have something like that for photos 15 x 22 cm
The storage box design is very beautiful and it has to be chosen very wisely, else the entire photo box might just turn up ugly instead of attractive. I strongly agree about it being very suitable as a gift too which is unique, thus having more sentimental value. I also like the fact that it keeps all the dust out which is very important for photos.
ReplyDeleteHi Jamie,
ReplyDeleteI love this box -- thanks so much for creating it. I have a small problem cutting this out with my Portrait. I just got my Portrait as a Christmas gift (yay!) so I'm a newbie.
My problem is the cover. It appears to be just a tad too wide so it isn't cutting the sides with the semi circle cutouts. I hope I'm making sense.
Do you have any suggestions how I can adjust this in the software so it will cut properly?
Many thanks!
