Good Morning! This week I am sharing new files that use Battery Operated Tealights! Let's start the week off with my new Cake Tealights! I am using LED tealights that are 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 1-1/2". I found a large box of 24 at either my Sams Club or Costco...is it bad that I frequent them both so often that I can't remember which!? :)
This file works with a battery operated tealight and it comes with all the paper elements shown. The file is compatible with both the 8x12 and 12x12 mats.
Here's the tutorial:
1. Cut out all your pieces.
2. Grab the piece with the tabs. Place adhesive on the side tab then adhere the tab to the other side of the piece to form a circle. Grab one of your circle frame pieces and place adhesive all over the back of it. Push the bottom tabs down so they are flat against your workspace.
3. Insert the circle frame piece, adhesive side down. Adhere it securely to the tabs. I use a tongue depressor/craft stick to smooth mine out and adhere it in place.
4. Place adhesive on the back of the second circle frame piece then place it in adhesive side up (but don't push it all the way down yet). Push your tabs down then flip the piece over and push the circle frame down against those tabs and adhere in place. Your piece should look like this now.
5. Grab the last circle frame piece and place adhesive on its back. Adhere it on top of one side.
6. Flip your piece over and add adhesive to the exposed tab pieces. Gather your scallop piece.
7. Adhere the main piece to the center of the scallop piece.
8. Insert your battery operated tealight. Place adhesive on the small circle piece and adhere it to the top of your tealight. Place adhesive along the ric-rac cut and adhere it around the cake.
9. Next gather your flower pieces. Curl the petals with a skewer or pencil then push the ends of the small center up.
10. Adhere the center to one of the flower pieces.
11. Then adhere the two flowers together.
12. Adhere the flower to the cake! You can easily pull up the tealight to turn it off and on.
This box is approximately 3" x 3" x 1-1/2" and fits the Birthday Cake Tealight. The box sides "explode" out when the lid lifts exposing the tealight cake. This box can be used on its own as well and is compatible with the 8x12 and 12x12 mats.

1. Follow the tutorial for the single cake to form the tealight bases. Your pieces should look like this when finished.
2. Adhere the large circles on each side of the large base.
3. Adhere the scallop on the large base. Your larger base should look like this now.
4. Place adhesive on the center of the scallop circle piece.
5. Adhere the large base to the scallop circle.
6. Adhere the small scallop border to the tealight base. Adhere the tealight base in the center of the large base.
7. Insert your tealight. Adhere the small circle panel over the tealight flame.
8. Embellish as desired.

I have had a couple questions with this one so
I am hoping the following will help explain the tiers:
The red are the pieces for the top/smallest tier. The orange are the pieces for the middle tier. The yellow is for the largest tier, and then you have the green scallop for the bottom of the cake then the blue scallops for the cake borders (in size order).

1. This file comes with two bases. The Cameo base is all one piece. This is the Portrait base. Place adhesive on the tab and adhere to the main box.
2. Your base should look like this now.
3. Insert your cake in the box center.
4. To build the lid, place adhesive on the four small tabs and adhere them to the box sides. Adhere mats in place.
5. Pull up the sides of the box and then place the lid on and embellish as desired. When opened, the box side fall out revealing the cake!

ReplyDeleteHi Jamie, Ive got the three tier cake but the circle frames are not the right size neither are the plain circles. They are not graduated like the cake bands so they don't fit. They all come out the same size. Going to have to resize them myself. Shame because I've cut them all out already!

ReplyDeleteI have a question, if I am looking at this correctly each layered is basically sealed then glued to the next smallest layer. How on earth do you turn the light on since the tea lights I have the lil switch is at the bottom
ReplyDeleteI'm also confused as to how you can then turn the light on/off; the switch is on the bottom, and gets covered up. Soooo...?
ReplyDeleteThe tealight top sits on the base so the can be removed easily to turn the tealight off/on or replace batteries. I designed them this way so it would be easy to get to them. Having a small hole in the base bottom was hard to get to the switch and wouldn't allow for battery replacement which I felt was important. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteI cant get these to cut correctly on the explorer. I don't have the correct size for I did not get the special sizing on this and when I went to download again it said there was nothing to download so cant get these files to work

DeleteHi I just bought the file and it comes in two svgs. The first file contains all blue components, the second file contains all black components. Is there a diff. between the two? Do I cut out both sets?

The file names should be different. There is a regular SVG file and then a Design Studio file noted with DS in the file name for the Cricut use. If you have more questions, please let me know! Thanks, Jamie

Is there a video tutorial for this? I'm really confused with how the 3 tiered cake goes together.
ReplyDeleteJamie, this works out so great! I had to adjust the side panel slightly as my tealights are higher (because they have a forced venting space underneath, 3 little bits of plastic raising the whole thing of the surface about 1/8"). But that was easy to do. The main thing was that everything fit so wonderfully where circumference was concerned.
ReplyDeleteOther things I changed:
In my cutting file, I centered the bit that goes on top of the tealight to one of the frames and cut them in one go. Thus the pattern will match on top. Anybody can do that, easily.
I also added another ring of "icing" on top of the bit that's covering the tea light so it will look all levelled up. I used the "doily", sized it down to 42mm and added an internal offset of 2mm, then combined the two layers into a path to create a scallopped frame. Another easy one for those who like it.

I bought "3d double tier birthday cake tealight box" from Silhouette store (design number 68053) and was very disappointed that there was no pattern for the cake itself. Only the box is included. Apparently, what you see is not what you get.

The description has what the file includes. For this one the box and cake are separate. I'm so sorry for the misunderstanding. I'm always happy to work with folks when they reach out to me through email.
